Safeguarding at Centurion Multi-Academy Trust

Centurion Multi-Academy Trust holds a fundamental responsibility for ensuring the safety, welfare and well-being of all children and young people across its schools. Safeguarding is a legal and moral obligation, and robust systems have been established to prevent harm, respond to concerns, and create a culture where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Our approach embeds strategic leadership and operational consistency and a relentless focus on protecting children from harm. Centurion Multi-Academy Trust’s approach to safeguarding is a continuous commitment embedded at every level of the trust’s operation.

Strategic Oversight and Governance

The Board of Trustees holds ultimate responsibility for safeguarding across all academies within the trust. Trustees must ensure compliance with statutory duties (e.g. Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together To Safeguard Children). A specific trustee is designated to monitor and champion safeguarding ensuring it remains a high priority.

Policies and Procedures:

The MAT develops and reviews and disseminates trust-wide safeguarding policies that align with national legislation and local safeguarding partnerships. These policies are adapted to the localised context for each school where appropriate.

Leadership and Accountability

The CEO and executive leaders provide strong safeguarding leadership to ensure that all of our schools implement safeguarding consistently and effectively.

Designated Safeguarding Leads:

Each school has trained DSLs and deputies responsible for managing safeguarding concerns and referrals. You can access this information on the safeguarding page of each school’s website.

Reporting Structures:

Clear systems are established in our trust to report, escalate and act upon safeguarding concerns across the trust.

Training and Safer Recruitment

Centurion Multi-Academy Trust ensures all recruitment practices meet statutory safer recruitment standards, including DBS checks, references, and vetting procedures.

Staff Training:

All staff receive appropriate and regular safeguarding training, including updates on emerging risks and policy changes.

Governance Training:

Trustees and local governors, sitting on Academy Education Boards, receive safeguarding training relevant to their strategic role.

Monitoring and Quality Assurance

Audit and Compliance Checks:

Regular safeguarding audits and compliance reviews are carried out across all schools.

Incident Reporting and Analysis:

Our schools and our trust monitor safeguarding incidents and trends to inform proactive risk management and intervention

Self-Evaluation:

Schools complete annual safeguarding self-assessments to identify areas for improvement. Progress against review actions are monitored termly by our dedicated safeguarding consultant and local governors as part of Academy Education Board agendas.
